Teaching Philosophy

Our responsibility as instructors to foster student-centered learning environments. Research has shown that impactful teachers take a personal interest in their students and help them develop personal insights about how the subject matter is relevant to their lives.
As an instructor, I strive to create an inclusive classroom environment, curate students innate confidence and interest, and engage students’ higher order thinking skills. I help my students build confidence in their own abilities, so that they can successfully navigate challenges both in and outside the classroom. We work on developing this through high impact practices, including collaborative assignments and community-based learning that are completed in pairs or small groups. Course material is also often linked with current societal events to spark a sense of purpose and relevance and encourage students to find a personal and memorable connection. I structure my lessons to avoid confusion on complex topics by integrating and drawing from topics more relatable to my students.
